Winning Shot | Data East | 1989 | Normally I prefer golf games in the 'PGA Tour Golf' or 'Links' perspective. But this 'top-down' golf game surprised me with good playability, because its quite easy to learn and you can choose between players with different skills (like putting, power, ball control etc). | labelimageminimize |
Ganbare! Golf Boys | NCS Masaya | 1989 | One of those many Golf games which are playable and fun for a short while, but in the end won't make it into the hall of fame of videogaming golf. | labelimageminimize |
Power Golf | Hudson Soft;NEC HE (Hudson Soft) | 1989 | Another unspectacular top-down view golf game for the PC-Engine. The game works fine but lacks outstanding features that could motivate the player to play the one (and only) 18-hole course more than once. You can choose between three different characters (young man, young woman and older man) with slightly different stroke power. You can play against other players or the computer but there is no tournament mode. Graphics are on par with other golf games of this time.***Power Golf sports a perfect combination of simple-yet-realistic controls and beautiful graphics. Swing away on 18 lush holes in one of three different game modes: the single-player STROKE PLAY mode and the multiplayer MATCH PLAY and COMPETITION modes. Enter tournaments as one of three different characters—beginner, intermediate and advanced. Wind strength and the slope of the green add extra challenges to each hole. Compete against other players in the standard NORMAL MATCH or ante up one of your clubs in the unique CLUB MATCH. Up to three players can play in COMPETITION mode, and a handicap feature is included to help novice players pull off breathtaking shots just like their advanced rivals. | labelimagesubject |
Naxat Open | Naxat (Tose) | 1989 | Well, this game came in the wake of many other golf games on the PC-Engine in 1989 like [game=#10635]Ganbare! Golf Boys[/game], [game=#10803]Power Golf[/game] or [game=#10936]Winning Shot[/game] and its very similar to them. The game is played in top-down perspective, only the very first shot of a hole is shown in pseudo 3D-view. Playability is pretty good, graphics and sound are unspectacular.*** [52]*** [37]*** [27] | labelimageminimize |
Jack Nicklaus' Greatest 18 Holes of Major Championship Golf | Victor;Accolade (Accolade) | 1989 | "I designed my golf game with one goal in mind - to create the most realistic simulation of championship golf in the world. Tee to green, it offers the most breathtaking scenery available. And I've made sure that there's variety and challenge built into every hole. It's my mind of golf - uncompromising. And I know you'll enjoy it as much as I do." -Play against a computerized Jack Nicklaus -Play in a foursome. Chose men or women oppopnents -Play the Australian Golf Club, home of the Australian Open***My biggest complaint with this game are the graphics, which are unworthy of the PC-Engine's graphical capabilites and takes lots of time to build up after each shot. This takes away all dynamic from the game. Gameplay mechanics are average, only one course with 18 holes are not very much and at the time of release there were already a couple of better top-down golf games for the PC-Engine on the market. Why they decided to port an average golf game from homecomputers to the PC-Engine is a bit beyond me. | labelimagesubject |
